At some point in your life, you have probably completed a self-evaluation, filled out a performance review, or taken a fun online quiz to find out which movie character matches your personality type.
We’ve found that the most worthwhile evaluations help us to identify blind spots we may have developed over time, uncover strengths we may not even recognize, and inspire us to set goals that will take us in the direction we really want for our lives.
Today we’re introducing a new self-evaluation that we hope will help you to do just that! This is the very first introduction to our upcoming ARISE Program, which will focus on these six categories:
1. Create a calm, organized, and uplifting environment (the desk)
2. Increase your mental and physical health and well-being (the happy jumping guy)
3. Build a strong, happy family (the little house)
4. Achieve financial security so you can be in a position to give back (the money…)
5. Draw closer to your Higher Power (the sun)
6. Discover and live your unique purpose (the butterfly)
And there are two versions for you—so you can complete this digitally or with pen and paper.
After taking this 5-10 minute self-assessment, we hope you will have some initial ideas on what could be done to close those “gaps” that exist in your life and move more in the directions that give you a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment.
We’ve also included some space for you to record your thoughts at the end of the PDF, and we hope that you will feel encouraged–knowing that everyone has gaps/areas of improvement, and everyone has strengths!
If you’re interested in improving your skills in these areas and/or joining with like-minded people in our ARISE community, please stay tuned for the opportunity to grow and connect more in these categories with us!
Full details about our ARISE membership can be found on our information page. (Click here!)
LearnDoBecome Challenge: Take a few minutes to go through your assessment and fill it out. When you finish take a moment to pause and reflect. What are some categories you are already satisfied in? And what are some areas listed that you would like to focus and improve upon this year? Jot them down, and take a deep breath knowing you are already a step closer to where you want to be!
If you found this evaluation to be helpful, please leave a comment below about one way your life will improve through this self-reflection practice!

I really could use some help in all the areas!

I’m very excited to see this! April has been whetting our appetite for some time now!

This was great. Interestingly, creating an organized and uplifting environment is my biggest area of need. We recently moved, and I am mourning my fabulous home office sanctuary. Now I am in a corner of a bedroom – yet grateful for this corner and the space around me. I am just embarking on starting an online business, and rated this lowest because I am in need of digital organization, and paper organization- paper is under control, (thanks to this program- joined a few years ago…!! So Glad!) tho I am seeing some old “piling” habits creeping in while in this new space… As far as digital, I have landed on the thought that everything is figuroutable – including Asana maybe!! I appreciated the categories too. You are on to something!!!
Taryn Wood says
Laura, yes! Everything is definitely figure outable. 🙂 As a member of our STEP program, you may be interested to know that the program has recently been revised and there are some new trainings in the STEP Library specific to Asana. They may be helpful to you as you’re focusing on digital organization. 🙂 Wishing you all the best with your online business!
Myra says
The assessment links above look like the same document. How do I fill it out?
Maryann says
ARISE: Digital/Fillable Assessment – you can fill out when you open it
ARISE: Printable Assessment – you will open and print it to fill it out.
Have a nice day,
M
Nancye Taylor says
They were both the same when I opened them. The digital version did not allow for any way to easily fill it out online.
Taryn Wood says
Nancye, thanks for your comment! The first two pages of the digital and the printable version look the same. The digital version gives the option to click on the box, changing it to an X. The third page of each document is where you’ll see the difference. The digital version has a box that looks blue before you type in it, and then it turns orange. The printable version has lines for you to write your thoughts. I hope that helps!

So looking forward to taking a deep dive into this. Excited to learn more about the new ARISE program!

Whoa! I’ve been following along (at a bit of a distance: life is busy and I haven’t fully committed myself to what it’ll take to make STEP work for me) and I had no idea you’d interviewed Dr. Burns! That’s awesome. I’m a therapist and do all of my training with people who’ve learned from him. I helped out with a workshop he taught just this past weekend 🙂 I’m so glad you found those books to be helpful. They’ve certainly changed my life.
Taryn Wood says
Cheryl, Dr. Burns really is amazing! How fun that you were able to help with one of his workshops!
You have lifetime access to your STEP program so it will be waiting for you when you are ready. The program has just been revised to be easier to follow. 🙂 It’s also self-paced and organized in 5-10 minute microbursts that are easily done. We understand that people live busy lives so we’ve made it easy to jump in when you have time! We’re thrilled to have you with us and we look forward to hearing your success stories!
Dorian Gallo says
I’m so grateful not to be alone in fully committing to the STEPS program but need to take action. I bought the program last year, started and gave up. I feel like I’m drowning with overdue/late to dos. Thanks Taryn and Cheryl for posting!
Taryn Wood says
Dorian, you’re definitely not alone! We’re so glad you’re here, and we’re cheering for you! Feel free to reach out to our team or the Mastery Facebook group with any questions you might have as you’re jumping back into the program. You’ve got this!
Nina Morley Daye says
Don’t give up! Be kind to yourself and just decide on one thing. I find setting a timer for 10-20 minutes helps. I choose the area and then set the timer, work on the area and then celebrate the movement. My goal at first was to do something about the clutter in these small sessions 3 of 7 days of the week.

Valuable assessment tool. Helps me to focus in on where I am and where I would like to be. I plan to take it again a few months to see if I’ve improved at all. Thank you, April and Eric, for time you spent creating this and for the links provided!
April Perry says
You’re so welcome, Lori! Thrilled you’re here with us, and I’m glad this can help you focus. Love the idea of taking it again in a few months. 🙂 You can create a little calendar trigger with the link to come back here, so it will pop right up! (And not that you need me to tell you all the specifics, but for anyone else reading this, I would also keep a copy of my first assessment in OneNote or Evernote and then link to that completed assessment inside the calendar reminder. That way, when the reminder pops up, I just click to take the assessment again, click to see my previous results, and then I can decide what my next steps are from there. It’s these kinds of little processes that build on each other and make life more smooth….)
Michelle says
What a thoughtful evaluation. Makes me think that I need to rethink why each day is important and not let time slip past me and those whom I love.
April Perry says
Love that takeaway, Michelle! I think that’s a great way to look at it. Time slips past too easily…. Thanks for being here and for setting such a great example!
Connie Tercero says
Thank you April for this so much needed tool. My life has improved so much since I joined a few years back. I will admit it took me a few years to get a handle on my piles but I did it and it felt so out of this world tremendous to complete it. And then to have everything organized and a system in place was a blessing for me and my family. One thing that I have realized about myself is that sometimes I need to revisit Step Mastery bc I feel that something needs to be tweaked and every time I go back through I find exactly what it is either in the program itself or in a podcast….your program is the bomb!!! And now here once again with perfect timing you have come up with another tool …I am looking forward to being a part of the Arise community. The evaluation was an eye opener for me…the extra resources were food to my organizational and spiritual soul. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
Kristen says
I’ve recently been focusing on adding self-reflection into my routines. This self assessment folds right in. I ran across some particularly helpful questions from Emily Freeman in a video from Time Out For Women:
– What held me back from trusting God? Recognize my weakness and let it go.
– What am I grateful for? Trace the goodness.
– What is one thing You need me to do?
I love the way these questions help me reflect on my life while also drawing me closer to my Higher Power. Sometimes taking steps to close the “gaps” in my life seems to be beyond me. But I don’t have to do this alone.
Right now, my focus is on taking my digital organization to the next level, increasing my personal well-being, and drawing closer to my Higher Power. Looking forward to upcoming ARISE resources!
April Perry says
Love those questions, Kristen! Sounds like you’re working on some great goals, and we’re excited have you in ARISE (soon!).
Gail Wermuth says
I had signed up for the STEP course last summer and was doing well, going slow as reading suggested books by David Allen and Kondo. Had reached the point of having a pretty nice area for paperwork, and, at the same time, organizing my sewing, quilting, paper art work area. Even took photos. {My husband has a wonderful wood shop area and keeps his things there.} Then, my son had to move in with his 2 cats (I am extremely happy to have them, it really helped with the isolation I had been feeling), so had to clear out the one room that had paperwork organized for him. Then Christmas, then some health concerns. This evaluation has come at the right time. I am thinking I will start the STEP program over and then get to the point where plans are made for the future. (Have to admit I had hit a block of some kind over getting to the point.) I think it will help if I start participating in the group facebook conversations. Again, thank you for putting this together.
April Perry says
Gail, you have certainly been navigating a lot over the past few months! We’re so proud of you and so thrilled you’re here with us! Yes–now sounds like the ideal time for you to go through STEP again. Lots of people are doing the same, and they’re sharing their successes inside the Facebook group, so you’ll be in good company! We’re cheering you on!

Natalie, your enthusiasm is so appreciated! We’re grateful for this wonderful community, and we’re thrilled you are a part of it!

After dealing with an ailing mother over the last few years, her passing, and then her estate, I feel like my life has been put on the back burner. I have so much catch up on that it is overwhelming. Thankfully most of my bills are on automatic payments or I would have an even bigger mess to deal with. So with that being said, I am dedicating this year to getting my life back on track. Organization was #1 on list and the STEPS program has helped me tremendously in that area. I truly don’t believe I could have accomplished as much as I have without it. I am still having a hard time getting my daily schedule set up – I set it up but can’t seem to follow it. I need to work in exercise, train my puppies, get back on track with my business (I’m in real estate) and finances, keeping my house up, doing my Bible study, reconnecting with my husband, my hobbies of photography and scrapbooking and making time for fun. I have made baby steps – we are doing a weekly date night and we take turns planning them, I now have an office I can actually work in, with a system I am trying to put in place, I am starting to sleep better most nights, and we are going camping once a month (that is our happy place). I still have a lot on my plate – the business side of things is really disorganized and I am having a hard time prioritizing things in that area. All my projects for business seem to need to be done right now and there are too many of them so I get frustrated. I am on Module 5 so I am hoping that will help me in that area as well. ARISE seems like a program that will help me finish obtaining my goals for this year. I feel like I have made a lot of progress in the first quarter of this year, but I still have a ways to go. Thank you for such a good program, I can’t begin to tell you how much it has helped me.
April Perry says
Cynthia, this is awesome. I hope that you can see what a great job you are doing!! I know it’s easier for each of us to see our areas of struggle, but the things you’ve pointed out—like a monthly date you take turns planning and the fact that you are sleeping better is HUGE. I am so proud of you and grateful you are here with us! ❤️❤️❤️

🌸True story, All day yesterday I was wanting to sign up but hadn’t spoken to my husband about it. I had several different plans on how to approach him with this. He asked why I wanted this and I told him it was to give me more tools and extra support and he said yes. 💕
I’m truly thankful to get the opportunity to strengthen my foundation of healthy quality life in all these 6 areas.
April Perry says
So happy to have you with us!! xoxo

I’m so excited to join the ARISE program. This evaluation tool was helpful to identify my top areas of strength and opportunity, especially after listening and reflecting on the audio introductions to each category. It was a great activity to consolidate everything that came up throughout the introduction and the whole process helped me identify a common theme I can start working on right away to help me improve, hopefully in all the areas.
April Perry says
We’re so glad to hear that this is helpful, and it sounds like you are moving forward in great ways! Keep up the wonderful work, Jennifer!
Debra Wojtkiewicz says
Somehow I missed the checklist earlier this month. Just completed it and added it to my ARISE Folder. Definitely thought-provoking and gives me a way to assess my progress going forward.
Joyce says
Humbling to take this assessment. Lots of 1s and 2s even though I feel as if I have been working on self-improvement for so many years in so many different ways. I have to remind myself that I have done the best I can given my inner resources and supports and what life challenges have come my way. Hope I can make the time to be on the giving and receiving end of support in this community.
Taryn Wood says
Joyce, we’re SO glad you’re here! We have no doubt that you will have much to share with us in the ARISE program. Thanks for being with us!
