You’ve probably heard about the concept of putting the “big rocks” in first–which essentially means that if you want to have room in your life for the substantial, meaningful, truly important things, those need to be the FIRST items that receive your time, energy, money, etc.
This applies to the holidays, too. 🙂
Our LearnDoBecome Holiday Planning Resource (linked at the bottom of this post) will walk you through more of the details, but here’s an example of a family brainstorm we created a couple of years ago:
As a little update, our family was reunited last week! We picked our 20-year-old daughter up at the airport after her 18-month Church mission to Ukraine, and we’re excited to create some wonderful memories together this season. Of course there’s a lot of unstructured time to just “enjoy,” but it’s also been nice to have a variety of activities ready in case we’re all looking for something special to do. (Sending so much love from the whole Perry family!)
LearnDoBecome Challenge: After watching the video above, identify just one thing you could do to “put a big rock in first.” If our holiday-planning resource would be helpful (and you haven’t signed up yet), go ahead and register below! (And we’d love to hear any of your suggestions for fun, safe, meaningful activities that the LearnDoBecome community might appreciate this season.)

How wonderful you daughters go on mission trips. The experiences last a lifetime and make a huge impact on those they serve.

Congratulations on having two daughters serve missions! My only daughter (so far) to serve came home in March at the end of her full 18 months with a whole bunch of others who had to come home early due to COVID.
You are correct…life changes very much once your children get married and create their own holiday traditions with their own little family. Getting together is still possible, it just doesn’t happen the same way or even the same day as when they are all at home. Enjoy this year! xox
