[PODCAST 335]: 10 Dominoes of Financial Independence

by April Perry on Sep 8, 2026 2 Comments Posted in: Podcast, Productivity

We asked our ARISErs what their number one pain point is when to comes to achieving financial independence, and they told us that it was all about the budgeting and tracking—just trying to be consistent.

We’ve found that if we can master these first initial steps, then everything else will be SO much easier.

In today’s podcast, Eric and I are outlining the 10 dominoes to financial independence.

As we shared each principle, I (April) took the position of someone who might feel like these ideas are too difficult to implement, and Eric and I worked together to overcome these concerns. So, if as you’re reading these 10 “dominoes” below, you’re thinking, “Yeah, but this doesn’t work for me…” then please listen to the podcast! We guarantee you’ll feel hope. And if you want to work with us to master these principles, check out the link below to start your free trial of ARISE! Okay, lets’ dive in:

1 – Dream

Dream a little and decide on some things you want.

2 – Track

Create categories and start regularly tracking your spending.

3 – Budget

Create a monthly budget (from categories), track spending, and carefully keep within it.

4 – Surplus

Use budget to create a small surplus (either increasing income or reducing expenses).

5 – Reserves

Use surplus to build an “emergency fund” and then 3-6 months reserve funds.

6 – Un-Debt

Use surplus to pay down/off credit cards, student loans, and other debt.

7 – Invest

Use surplus (and what went to debt) to begin investing in 401(k), IRA, brokerage.

8 – Un-Mortgage

Use surpluses to continue investing 15% and also paying off a home mortgage.

9 – Growth and Giving (Compound)

Use surpluses to continue investing 15%+ and giving charitably.

10 – Independence

Achieve financial independence and retire comfortably with peace of mind.

This was an awesome podcast !
I love your sticker as well so cute !!
Finances have always been overwhelming to me . I have to handle them all as my husband leaves that on me . We are self employed so constantly income varies. No 401k no retirement accounts and I know I need to try and start investing but again it’s something I will have to make all the decisions on which I don’t like and it’s not like there is tons of money left over each month. Yet I know this is necessary to start especially since we are getting older 🙏

I don’t know if you’re already in ARISE, but if there’s any way you can make it to our class this Tuesday (or catch the replay!), this is exactly what Eric will be covering. 🙂 There’s a free trial of ARISE here! https://LearnDoBecome.com/ARISE
