If you are feeling overwhelmed, maybe you haven’t yet discovered the system that works best for you. And that’s okay, because there are LOTS of opportunities ahead!
Thoughts are powerful. Taking time to examine our beliefs is an insightful first step to making drastic changes in our life. The image of the Triangle | Circle | Square was shared with me from James Wedmore and represents the pattern our beliefs follow.
IF | THEN | WHICH MEANS
Because we work with people who are drowning in the details of life, one belief that we often hear is:
IF I have piles of clutter (or mental overwhelm)
THEN something is wrong with me. (Specifically: “I’m not an organized person, I am lazy, I am not as capable, I just can’t do life.”)
WHICH MEANS there is no way I will get out of overwhelm (or these piles) and no program, solution, idea, or book is ever going to change that.
Have you held this belief, or something similar? In her book Mindset Carol Dweck teaches about “growth” and “fixed” mindsets. The fixed mindset believes “this is who I am” while a growth mindset believes “this is what I can become.”
What about the following belief?
IF I really love my family,
THEN I can’t invest time away from them to grow personally or to expand my business.
WHICH MEANS there is no way I can any more grow personally or become a thought leader in what I feel I am called to do.
You can see how this belief is holding me back. Ready to do some thought work?
As we apply this belief exchange pattern we can change our old thoughts into new thoughts.
New Belief
IF I really love my family
THEN I am going to carefully invest my time and energy in the right places and with the right people.
WHICH MEANS I can work to become the thought leader that I am meant to be.
What beliefs do you want to change in your life? Consider what inner rules you have created to play small–to stay safe–and challenge yourself to rewrite these beliefs to help you move forward.
Don’t let your fear be stronger than your dreams.
