Eric and I participated in Dave Ramsey’s Smart Conference in Los Angeles on Saturday, and quite honestly, it was one of the best conferences we’ve ever attended.
We know it’s not always easy to get away for a full Saturday, so we sat down and went through the highlights from our notes so you can get the benefits right along with us!
It isn’t every day that you get to sit in a room full of other life architects–individuals and couples who want to create lives of excellence–and be taught powerful principles from experts in the field of money, marriage, parenting, personal development, and retirement.
As Dave Ramsey shared at the end of the event, “You become what you think about.” So enjoy the podcast, let’s all get thinking about how we want our lives to get “smarter,” and we can all become better together.

April- you seem like a person who reads a lot and attends quite a few conferences. I was very inspired by your note taking organization and also how you calendar in a time to review your notes. I have been trying this approach but I keep getting hung up with the review part. There are so many wonderful thoughts and ideas and I want to remember ALL of them ALL the time, which is kind of impossible. I could literally spend an hour daily reviewing all the notes I have amassed. Exactly how much time do you spend reviewing in general? Do you ever stop reviewing certain notes and just let that information go? All of my notes feel important and relevant. I don’t know if I need a shift in my system or in my thinking- maybe both?
PS- I am going on 4 years with M.O.M and it has changed my life!!!

Hi Jenifer! So glad that the MOM program has been helpful to you!
Okay, there’s an easy answer to this. 🙂
While you do want to keep all your notes so they’re available for review (mine are photographed and put into Evernote), the main thing you want to review is your Executive Summary page (like that template I made). It takes literally 2 minutes to scan it, and I typically pull out ALL the action items associated with it and put it into my system.
A bunch of ideas go into “Someday,” a few powerful ones go into my weekly Goal Review. Books I want to read go into my book list. Project ideas go onto a Next in Line Project list, and immediate projects/next actions go onto their respective lists.
So really, I go to a conference, take a ton of notes, make an executive summary, pull the action items out of it and put them into my system, and then the notes are just available in Evernote whenever I want/need them. But I don’t spend much time in the notes because I’m alternately applying everything I have learned. Does that make sense?
The amazing part about this is that over time, my life is shaped by all these conferences, and I literally see things improving day by day. I’ve got a long way to go, but the momentum feels great. 🙂
Hope that helps! I’d love to hear what ends up working for you the best! xo
